Winter starts
/Thank goodness for wool. “True” winter has not quite arrived, but climate change has already gifted me with a taste of double digit cold (that’s close to zero for you Fahrenheit-speaking souls), as well as a preview of the snow to come. So I say little more than thank goodness for wool!
Winter is a reckless time for starting a journey, might be said. Cold, storms, wet, and snow being some of the delights to be avoided. The sun is soon due to set for a six week night, making for challenging navigation. Why on earth set out on a case study in twilight hypothermia?
I heartily disagree. Winter is the perfect time to start a journey! Let the storms rage, and snow grow waist deep. My definition of journey does not start with a direct confrontation of Boreas. No. The true start of any journey begins with skill building, with learning from the experiences of others, and from experimenting and building personal kit. I want to use what I learn, test what I make. Find the holes and weaknesses, make repairs, and move forward.
So, bring on the wool, and let winter settle in. I have much to do, and winter is surprisingly short.
